Perfect Conditions for a Top-Class Tournament
Following the official welcome by the ZHS and adh representatives Manuel Lohmann and Viola Torliene, the tournament got underway on schedule with the group stage. Teams from across Germany enjoyed excellent playing conditions, from professional event organization to the outstanding facilities at the venue.
Women’s Competition: Munich Successfully Defends the Title
The Munich University Team (WG München) delivered an impressive performance from the very beginning. During the group stage, the team secured a hard-fought victory over eventual finalists WG Erlangen-Nuremberg before going on to finish first in their group.
In the semifinals, Munich advanced confidently to the final with another convincing performance. There, they once again faced WG Erlangen-Nuremberg. In front of a large crowd, the final featured long rallies, spectacular defensive plays, and tremendous commitment from both sides. With a well-earned 2–0 victory, WG Munich successfully defended its German University Championship title.
Men’s Competition: University of Rostock Claims the Championship
The men’s tournament also showcased volleyball at the highest level. In Group A, Munich 1 defeated Munich 2 in an all-Munich matchup to secure first place in the group and a spot in the semifinals. Munich 2 went on to finish in an impressive fifth place after the classification matches.
Both semifinals turned into thrilling encounters, with the University of Rostock and WG Jena each securing their place in the final after winning dramatic tie-breaks. In the championship match, Rostock delivered a dominant performance, defeating WG Jena 2–0 to claim the German University Championship title.
University Sports Bring People Together
The championship was about more than just competition on the court. During the evening social program, participants from universities across Germany had the opportunity to connect, exchange experiences, and enjoy the end of the first day of competition together.
Once again, the 2026 German University Volleyball Championship demonstrated what university sports are all about: outstanding athletic performances, fair competition, and a strong sense of community.
The ZHS would like to thank all athletes, volunteers, and the German University Sports Federation (adh) for contributing to a highly successful championship weekend. Congratulations go to WG Munich for successfully defending the women’s title and to the University of Rostock for winning the men’s German University Championship.
