Lockdown ... and yet not a lost year 2020!

Rising numbers of infections, perplexed (university) politicians and virologists ... then the lockdown! The closure of the sports facilities in March also affects central university sports almost out of the white and blue sky over the Bavarian capital of Munich. The summer semester, which has already been planned down to the last detail, seems to have moved a long way off.

Thanks to the strong team spirit of the full-time and freelance employees of the ZHS, however, new opportunities are quickly found to enable the participants - despite Corona - a wide range of sports. Many dedicated course instructors offer online courses from fitness to gymnastics to dance to keep Munich students fit during the pandemic. With the first easing of the hygiene measures, we are starting with individual sports and tennis, so that we can gradually take up other sports offers, of course with a reduced number of participants. Some of the online courses of the summer semester are proving to be so popular that they will be included in the planning for the winter program 2020/21, regardless of Corona. The winter semester starts promisingly in mid-October with numerous face-to-face courses, until after three weeks the political decision to suspend recreational sport interrupts our face-to-face operations again. Thanks to the experiences from the spring, the online courses can be reactivated promptly and even expanded.

As difficult as the overall situation is, there is still very good news at the ZHS Munich: Corona has barely restricted the new construction measures on the TUM campus in the Olympiapark and the construction progress of the 14 new sports halls, 12 lecture halls, 15 laboratories, 5 workshops and around 300 offices is still on schedule. The indoor climbing facility will certainly be a highlight for the users of the ZHS. With its fresh colors and the stylized mountains on the walls, it immediately awakens the desire to climb. We can hardly wait for the move to the modern halls in summer 2021. And two years later, the entire area with its institutes and all outdoor facilities should shine in new splendor. In the summer of 2020, a climbing and bouldering facility, which is probably unique for universities, and a large fitness facility were completed and made available to our participants in the outdoor area. The fitness facility (4-F-Circle) will be integrated into the joint project with adh and TK: As part of the adh initiative “Study Moves - Study Moves 2.0”, a kind of “Ninja Warrior Parcour” is being created - including an app for an attractive one and effective outdoor training. The construction progress as well as the climbing and fitness facility can be followed by webcam from the Olympic Tower: www.zhs-muenchen.de/startseite/

Exciting times await us in which it is more important than ever to stick together and stay fit.

In this sense:
Stay fit, stay healthy with #SpiritOfSports

With best wishes from the
