Krasshoppers narrowly miss finals
The Munich mixed-softball team Krasshoppers can look back on a challenging season with many successes, but narrowly misses the finals, where the best 8 teams compete for the title of German University Champion.
Game report about the 4th game day in Darmstadt (29.06.2019) by Susanna Tinkl:
Thanks to the brothers Benjamin and Niklas, who had their first game day, the Krasshoppers could compete in their last game day in Darmstadt. Even before the day started, the first win was already clear, because Dortmund had to cancel their game. Thanks to the cancellation the Krasshoppers could arrive on Saturday morning and only had to play two games with outside temperatures over 30 degrees celcius.
The first opponent Münster managed good hits against pitcher Chris, which - paired with some insecurities in the inexperienced defense (it was the first game season for four of nine players) - lead to a total of 13 points. The Krasshoppers had difficulties with the variety of pitches by Jose and only rarely reached their base. The best opportunity to score a point was destroyed by Münster by a double play. Therefore the game ended without an honor point after five innings with 0:13.
The pitchers from Darmstadt were a lot better handled by the Krasshoppers and the rookies were able to score their first hits and points. Pitcher Philipp prevented that the team from Darmstadt scored. Unfortunately, the game did not continue as successfully. By the third inning Darmstadt had already scored 15 points while the Krasshopper's offense only managed to score another point. The game ended 3:18.
In the final ranking the Krasshoppers had 5 wins and 7 lost games and landed on 10th place. This means they miss the finals for the title of German University Champion in Cologne in mid August with the best 8 teams.
